"It is illegal in many cities, incidentally, to take maps of the city out of the city. More than one fellow, too, has put himself in the quarries or on the bench of a galley for having been caught with such a map in his possession." -Magicians

Map of Lydius & Districts
Disclaimer: This is our imagining of Lydius. The Districts are not mentioned in the books.

The Districts of Lydius:
Pulldowns within the room follow the colours representing the districts on the map.

Riverhaven
A small peasant village situated between the city of Lydius and the southern banks of the Laurius river.  A small wooded area also borders the eastern side of the village and it is there that outlaws are said to venture to trade with the locals.  Some stories report that the outlaws may at times cross the river in order to visit the village itself or journey into the city of Lydius in disguise, claiming they are peasants from Riverhaven.  The village is patrolled by the Lydian Guard who attempt to root out rumoured outlaw activity in the area.

Lydian Hills & Estates
An elevated plain overlooking parts of the city and the meadowlands to the south where the wealthy and elite own sprawling villa estates and plantations.  Purchasing and maintaining a property here costs a fortune.  The Lydian Garrison routinely patrols here and many estates have their own small standing force of guardsmen offering further protection.

Gold District (Street of Coins)
The name of this district references the powerful caste of Merchants which rules Lydius. Many large, high end businesses and other operations, money lenders and the Lydius Bank are all located here.

The Lydian Garrison
The Garrison houses a large ground and air force dedicated to the port's protection from all sides.  The council of merchants fund the garrison and as such the garrison and its men are considered rather loyal to the merchants.  Any indication otherwise tends to rouse the council to action which generally leads to a new commander being installed.

The Silver District & Silver Sands Stadium
The Silver District is the largest commerce district in Lydius not surprisingly as it is centrally located.  Shops and businesses abound along with stately residences of varying architectural styles showcasing the multicultural atmosphere of the city. This district is also home to the Silver Sands Stadium named not only for the district it is located within but a popular tale suggests the original architect of the stadium may have mixed the sands with flakes of silver as a way of boasting the city's immense wealth while paying homage to the district's name.  Indeed on a clear day the sands do seem to glitter brightly in the sun depending on who you ask. Adding further fuel to the tale is the practice of awarding a fighting slave's freedom through the presenting of a silver coin bearing the seal of the stadium. This too may be where the name originates but again no one has been able to verify this.

The stadium hosts a number of competitions including races, animal hunts and the ever popular gladiatorial spectacles. The arena is also home of the Silver Spectacle, an annual triathlon between fighting slaves and other participants seeking fortune and glory composed of a team combat, a race and finally a grand melee between the remaining participants. Many will enter, only one will leave!  Panthers and Outlaws captured in the city may also be sent to the stadium to fight.  If an Outlaw or Panther Girl emerges victorious they may be spared impalement or enslavement.  Those who lose but do not perish in the sands are often auctioned off immediately on the spot to spectators in the stands.

The Talendar District
The Talendar District is made up of the villas and homes of the elite and wealthy. It is an exclusive district which only the very wealthy and high caste may call home.  It is also well patrolled and guarded not only by the Lydian Garrison but by personal guards employed by the various high caste clans and families who live here.  The largest and finest bath house in Lydius is located in this district along with the Gardens of Lydus named after the city's founder.  The caste and history of Lydus are often disputed by scholars within Lydius and as such the high caste and the merchant council are quick to try and claim him as one of their own.  This of course leads to many public arguments and declarations with the gardens becoming a focal point of the dispute as the high castes and merchant caste compete to add and expand the gardens in a bid to outdo the other and ultimately win the argument of Lydus' origins.

Central District (Market & Public Gardens )
The Market, Central Cylinder, Cylinder of Documents, Cylinder of Justice and Public Gardens are all located here.  It is a well guarded area patrolled regularly by the Lydian Guard day and night with men posted throughout the cylinder's as well.

The Iron District (Unbroken Stronghold & Street of Steel)
This district is named for the ludii operating in the area.  The metal workers and ludus owners have long enjoyed a mutually beneficial business arrangement which sees the metal workers commissioned to supply the different ludii with weaponry. The Iron District is also home to the Unbroken Stronghold which is gaining prominence within the city, something that hasn't gone unnoticed by the merchant council ruling Lydius.

The Dina District (Street of Brands)
This district hosts a number of brothels, taverns and slaver houses of varying size where slaves are trained, purchased and rented out.  Not surprisingly it is quite a popular area for sailors arriving after weeks on the high seas.  Any and all businesses dealing with slaves are located here.

Copper District
This district is where the poor and destitute congregate in over crowded slums overlooking the harbour. Narrow streets and crooked alleyways snake through this unsavoury place which also hosts a number of rough and low end taverns frequented by sailors.  This area is not well patrolled by the Lydian Garrison which leaves this district alone for the most part although at times may sweep through arresting those involved in criminal activities.  Dock Girls, also known as she urts in Port Kar, run rampant here and are easy prey or entertainment for the men of this district.

Docks
The Docks of Lydius feature wharves and fortified warehouses rented by various cities of Gor. The docks are almost always busy and bustling, just the way the merchant council desires it.  Paying for wharfage here is an easy affair and the representatives of the merchants will ask no questions nor will they demand proof of your vessel's registration and port of origin. They are only interested in keeping trade and goods flowing from the port and making profit.  That said anyone disrupting commerce or the peace will be dealt with swiftly.
