Strange things are afoot in the realm of the gods and goddesses.

Since Jupiter failed in preventing the gods and goddesses from spreading their seed into the mortal world, the realm has become more divided, and the grip Jupiter had on the others has been tempered by the formation of The Council of 13.   Though he has the lion's share of power, others are more willing to test the waters and defy him.

A select group of gods and goddesses now hold the reins of Olympus and for good or ill, they now must rule jointly or not at all.

With the forming of the Council of 13, a Treaty was set between the Olympians.  Gone is the old look of ancient Rome, Olympus is now the vision of a shining city on a hill.  The city, Olympus, is divided by the river Styx and the two brothers Jupiter and Pluto have leadership of one half of the city.  Jupiter has rulership of the upper part of the city, Neptune the riverfronts and waterways, Pluto, the lower part of the city.  (also known as the underworld)

The River Styx

Three bridges cross the River joining upper and lower parts of the city. The North Bridge, the Central Bridge and the South Bridge. A 'force field' has been placed on each bridge a third of the way across bridges. This force field causes pain to those that cross the river w/o permission.

Special notation: This is Olympus in the modern era, where just being a god or goddess isn't enough. There is plenty of madness and mayhem just waiting around the corner.

The only titles in Olympus that pass from parent to child are Jupiter, Pluto, Neptune. The other gods and goddesses are either nominated and elected or appointed. Mars is the exception as his position is decided by a three-day combat tournament set up by Minerva, This is a new development. For if one god or goddess 'dies', retires or is exiled it will tip the power balance in Olympus. Thus, if one of the Legacy gods is killed, one of his children will take over the 'position and renew the name, losing their own name in the process... ie... If Jupiter is killed, the oldest of his children is moved to the position and will take on the name Jupiter. If Tellus is killed, her position will be filled by another garden goddess (by nomination and appointment of the other garden goddesses) and will assume the name Tellus.

Factions and alliances have already begun to come together since the Treaty and Council have been created. Everyone has a role in the life of Olympus with it, their own little slice of the Olympus pie. Everyone is ambitious and cutthroat and willing to step on others to propel themselves higher, either into a vacated position in the 13 or into their circle of power. Left to their own devices, they would be going to war with each other inside of a year. It is one of Jupiter's main jobs now, to keep that from happening. He is the one that has to keep a tight rein on the various personalities.

The status of the rest of the gods/goddesses fluctuate depending on the year or even the season. Seniority counts for something, as do the responsibilities of certain titles—Mars with Olympus’s personal army, for example. If accounting for the alliances, feuds and minor grievances, one wrong move can have half of Olympus turning on you.

Most of the Thirteen have some sort of private security which they contract for themselves and their families.
